The 58th National Film Awards were announced. Rajinikanth's son-in-law Dhanush (Aadukalam - Tamil) and Salim Kumar (Aadaminte Makan Abu - Malayalam) shared the 'Best Actor' award.

 The 'Best Actress' award was shared by Mitalee Jagtap (Baboo Band Baaja) and Saranya (Privannan). Aadaminte Makan Abu (Malayalam) was adjudged the 'Best Film' (Swarna Kamal). Vetrimaran won the 'Best Director' award for Aadukalam (Tamil).

 Salman Khan's "Dabangg" won the Best Film for Wholesome Entertainment. 'Do Dooni Chaar' won the 'Best Hindi Film' award.
